Discover Kériolet Castle in Concarneau

Just minutes from the walled city, Kériolet Castle immerses you in a fascinating world of history, architecture, and extraordinary lives.

Nestled in the hills above Concarneau, this medieval castle was transformed in the 19th century into a unique place, marked by the personalities of Princess Zénaïde Narisckine and Count Charles de Chauveau.

Book our hotel in Concarneau to visit this jewel of Breton architecture.

A Castle Steeped in History

Built in the 13th century, the castle underwent a true metamorphosis in the 19th century under the impetus of its owners.

A lover of Brittany, the princess incorporated numerous regional symbols, particularly visible on the south façade facing the sea and the Glénan Islands.

From ermine paws and fleurs-de-lis to historical statues, every detail speaks of an attachment to both Breton history and French aristocratic tradition.

Richly Decorated Rooms

Inside, the castle reveals rooms as surprising as they are refined.

  • The Guard Room, formerly a ballroom, impresses with its Kersanton stone fireplace and stained-glass windows depicting the Count.
  • The armory, restored in a medieval style, contrasts with the bright, south-facing drawing room where the princess displayed her precious collections: porcelain, tapestries, and earthenware.
  • The dining room, adorned with emblematic motifs such as fleur-de-lis, and the remarkably well-preserved kitchen with its hand-painted earthenware, bear witness to the refinement and art of living of the era.

Kériolet, a Castle with Stunning Architecture

Kériolet Castle is distinguished by its blend of styles.

The inner courtyard perfectly illustrates this diversity, with medieval, Renaissance, and Neo-Gothic influences coexisting harmoniously.

Even the technical aspects are surprising: the crypt houses a particularly innovative underfloor heating system for its time, allowing heat to be distributed throughout the entire castle.

Every corner reveals a new facet of this timeless place, a blend of architectural audacity and unexpected details.
